Scottsdale Marriott at McDowell Mountains

I’m torn on this. The rooms were OK but there is a stench in the hotel that cannot be explained. The hallways smell old, and the catwalk between buildings smells wretched like BO or something dead. I did have a billing issue but it was cleared up after one phone call. On to the Pros: service. The valet and restaurant/bar servers. Darlene is amazing! Her jalapeño Margarita was phenomenal (and I don’t drink tequila!) and I enjoyed a few during my stay. Breakfast was good and enjoyed by the kids. The lunch/dinner menu looked good as well although we weren’t able to eat there for those meals. Good options in the snack bar area. Bed was comfy with a nice balcony facing the golf course. If we are in the area again, I’m coming back to see Darlene - she literally made our trip! - and to have another of her margaritas!

Stayed at the Marriott the front desk persons were amazing. The rooms could be updated for the price, the location was secluded. The reason for the low review is due to the fact that they charge you a “resort fee” $30 but if you stay 1 night you better get there early so you can eat on your first night. Don’t use it the next day or you will be charged. The food looked amazing, but the potatoes were cold & the waffles. They neglect to tell you that when checking in. It is NOT posted but it is in your pamphlets, but who reads that? Seriously! The $30 resort fee should be able to be used for the stay if you’re staying 1 night. Not the first night. I’m disappointed in how this was handled & the further customer service I was given over the phone. Also would like to note, I was not rude or anything, didn’t use not 1 curse word or yell. The manager (Caleb) threaten to call my home Marriott since I used the friends & family discount about my call. I should be able to tell Marriott I am not satisfied without any repercussions coming to me. That was totally out of line. Again the 2 gentleman at the front desk Friday night were amazing, maybe give the feed back to mention the resort fee is for the same day not the next morning.

We had a great stay at the Marriott at McDowell Mountains. My only feedback would be that the rooms are in a need of an update, but what they needed in an update, they made up for in the service and main hotel spaces! Everyone was so friendly and kind, exceptional service. Dominick checked us in and when he found out it was our little one's birthday, he made it extra special and sweet. The gentleman at the main bar/dining was fantastic, the housekeepers were all so kind, the valet team - literally everyone. Location is great and overall, great stay!
